Methodology for Learning Hindi Language as Second or Foreign Language

This blog article is written for Hindi Beginners that don’t know where to start learning the Hindi language.  Hindi belongs to the Indo-European family; Indic branches of the Indo-Iranian group. Hindi is the most widely spoken language of the Republic of India, centered principally in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in the north-central part of the country. Its 1028 million speakers rank it as one of the leading languages of the world and it is understood by most of India's population. When independence was achieved in 1947, Hindi was chosen as one of India's national language. Like most of the languages of northern India, Hindi is a direct descendant of Sanskrit.

It has been influenced and enriched by Dravidian, Turkish, Farsi, Arabic, Portuguese and English. Hindi and Urdu, the official language of Pakistan, are virtually the same language, though the former is written in the Sanskrit characters and the latter in the Perso-Arabic script. Pure Hindi derives most of its vocabulary from Sanskrit, while Urdu contains many words from Persian and Arabic. The basis of both languages is actually Hindustani, the colloquial form of speech that served as the lingua franca of much of India for more than four centuries.

Hindi was originally a variety of Hindustani spoken in the area of surrounding Delhi. Its development into a national language had its beginnings in the colonial period, when the British began to cultivate it as a standard among government officials. Later it was used for literary purposes and has since then become the vehicle for prose and poetry.

The Hindi language is the first most spoken language in the world and then second is Mandarin Chinese. It’s estimated that nearly half a billion people worldwide speak this wonderful language. Hindi is one of many languages in India but is considered to be the national and official language of India. The Hindi language is also known as Hindi-Urdu or Hindustani language.

The most important thing you need to have before you start learning Hindi. You need to have a reasons to learn Hindi to know about ancient rich culture of India subcontinent. To keep you properly motivated towards your goal of becoming fluent with Hindi. Motivation to learn will be your biggest challenge to determine if you’ll be successful or not. So focus on a reason to keep you interest and motivation for the long haul

 

Familiarize Yourself with the Hindi Alphabet

Learning to read the Hindi Alphabet should be the first step for Hindi beginners. The Hindi alphabet is also known as the Devanagari alphabet and contains 51 characters. Hindi contains 11 vowels, 2 semivowels, 40 constants, and has no upper and lower case of each letter. Hindi letters are written left to right and linked together by lines through the top of each letter and all Hindi alphabets are written with help of Khadipai (|) .
